term paper: not done.
Dec. 6th, 2005 02:39 amDue date: Tomorrow morning. Required wordcount: approx 10,000. Current wordcount: just shy of 1700. Plus two very necessary graphs which nonetheless should not have taken me most of the afternoon to produce.
It did not help that Gnumeric cannot export graphs in any vector format other than SVG, which I swear is the Roach Motel of vector graphics -- there are zillions of programs to convert stuff into SVG, but you want to convert out? You want the horribly old-fashioned PostScript? Well, buddy, you're going to have to install hundreds of megabytes of Java interpreter, and you're going to have to write XSL-FO wrapper files, and you're going to have to dig the bounding boxes out of the SVG files by hand.
...One day, I will get my hands on a time machine, and I will go to the 1980s and I will systematically exterminate everyone who would otherwise have had a role in the creation of SGML, and there will be much rejoicing. This will not, however, help me get my paper in on time.
