So I should be writing my term paper, but instead what I am doing is reading back issues of milliways_bar, being tempted to join, and not being able to decide who to play. Many of my favorite characters are already taken, of course (e.g. pat_rin, nita_callahan, spark_girl, number_ten_ox). Really, it's a horrible idea. I don't have the time.

Let me know if you do. Me, I've never been able to figure out what I would do RPing one of my favorite characters that I wouldn't do as myself.

It's still very much a question of having the time.

As for characters, well, I've been roleplaying heavily for years, I think I have a handle on being someone other than myself. The sad thing, though, is it would actually be interesting to drop myself into Milliways, or at least a somewhat genericized early-21st-century mundane-Earth scientist boy. But you can't do that; you have to play a fictional character from some established storyline. There probably are characters out there who fit the above description but not in books I've read, unfortunately. (There was a brief moment of temptation to play Jordan Cochran from Real Genius, but I don't think I can do that level of demented perky.)
