My sister directs plays. On February 10, her new play opens in Los Angeles. It's called A VAST WRECK, and she describes it as "a trippy combination of Peer Gynt and Our Town." It will kick ass. I would like to organize a large posse of folks to come up to Los Angeles and see it with me, on either the 10th or the 11th, whatever works best for everyone. I believe it to be possible to get there and back by train, so we would not have to drive two hours each way. Tickets are $10.

On February 17, the Sisters of Mercy are playing at the San Diego House of Blues. I don't imagine all that many of you are into a goth band from the late 1980s, but if maybe one or two of you are interested, it would be a lot more fun than going by myself. Tickets are sadly rather expensive, $37.

Please let me know if you're interested in coming to either or both of these. It would be best to make plans as soon as possible.

Regarding your previous post: A-ha, so that's who you are. How is San Diego treating you?

I might be up for going to see the Sisters. I'm a bit wary, as I was really disappointed in the Bauhaus show last month -- although how much of that was the venue (4th & B), how much was me (totaly tired and over-socialized) and how much was actual band/concert suck, dunno. Mostly I wrote it off to my being spoiled by much smaller / intimate shows (even Peter Murphy live felt better than this); a big rock show gave me zero connection.

Anyway, let me know how the plans for the Sisters shape up.

Won't be able to make the play due to [livejournal.com profile] deliriumdream is coming into town. We're hopefully going to go see the Quidam, the Cirque du Soleil show that's touring in Del Mar right now...

You're the only person who expressed even a little interest in the Sisters, and given your misgivings (which echo mine somewhat) I suspect it won't happen. I have heard that they have new material that one only gets to hear at live performances, but I'm not sure I want to spend $37 for that.

San Diego's been good so far. I wish I could've found somewhere to live closer to UCSD campus, though. The commute is leaving me too exhausted to do my homework, which is Bad.

So, as it turns out, I'm going with at least one other friend in the area (she's a PhD who teaches Mathematics at USD). So if you are inclined to give it a shot, let me know and we can coordinate. (And, as a bonus, the ticket box girl was very sweet and very cute in a nicely-alternative way. Yay!)

Long commutes indeed suck. Mine is 25mi / 30min each way, but that's only because I'm against traffic (home in Ocean Beach, work in Rancho Bernardo), and I have exceedingly flexible hours.

Where did you end up finding a place?

Finally, there are likely to be some geeky gatherings and/or easy bike rides this weekend. If you have any interest in joining us, please drop me a line. Replies here work, as does mail direct to mailto:tkil@scrye.com or give me a ring at 858-229-1611.

Good luck!

It turns out that there's a grad-student social event that night which I would rather do. But thanks for mentioning it.

I wound up in Mission Valley, surrounded by strip malls. But at least there's a convenient bus hub, and while it's a long-ass ride to campus, it's just one bus and it's almost always on time.

I think I've missed the weekend you were referring to...? anyway, I don't have a lot of time this quarter, especially not for short-notice things. But again, thanks for mentioning, and I might be up for something like that later on especially if you can give me a week+ notice. Yay schedules.
