dear lazyweb: help me buy a printer
Dec. 15th, 2006 11:06 amI need a new printer. It needs to have the following properties:
- My computer is one of those spiffy Shuttle miniboxes and does not have a parallel port; USB, FireWire, or WiFi connectivity are necessary.
- Must work, out of the box, with no grief whatsoever, with Linux (specifically, Debian, unstable, CUPS)
- Must cost less than $200.
- Per-page cost of supplies must be as low as possible. If I have to buy a $50 ink cartridge every month it's no good. I expect to be printing about 50 pages a week.
- Should not consume mass quantities of electricity if left on all the time. I may have killed my old printer by turning it off whenever it wasn't in use.
- Color would be nice but is not required.
- Double-sided printing would also be nice; failing that, reliable operation when one prints every other page, flips the printout over, and sticks it back in to print the remainder.
- Paper feed should never, under any circumstances, grab more than one page at a time.
Suggestions?
