Nov. 15th, 2004 03:31 pmHave now got a car with four sound, properly-installed tires once again. Have also purchased various items to make the next episode of Late Night Tire Failure less awful: lug wrench with a longer lever arm, can of WD-40, two mini flashlights (mail ordered - should get here by next week), and can of Fix-A-Flat (it probably doesn't last, but it may allow one to postpone a proper repair until daylight).
The mechanic told me the wheels were all out of alignment and claimed to have fixed it. Three hundred miles ago, the mechanic who did the 3000-mile service told me the wheels were out of alignment and claimed to have fixed it. And three hundred miles before that, the mechanic who replaced a different tire (which was not punctured, just worn down and cracked) told me the wheels were out of alignment and claimed to have fixed it. Either all three mechanics are scamming me, or there's something deeper wrong with the suspension, such that the wheels don't stay aligned. I like neither possibility.
