I'm pretty sure it was an adult, because it was making the especially awful (if you're a human) noises that cats only make when they're horny. But that doesn't rule out its going to its mommy to complain, I suppose.
The scene was actually rather funny. There were two cats sitting in the downstairsniks' yard, staring at each other, one whining and the other looking bored. I threw water from the balcony, it splashed about four feet short. The bored cat got up, walked three feet farther away, and gave me the you-don't-impress-me look. The whining cat ran and hid under a deck chair. And it shut up, which was the important thing as far as I was concerned.
