If you are using Emacs 23, and you are mysteriously getting "Error: (args-out-of-range "" 0)" and/or "Lisp nesting exceeds `max-lisp-eval-depth'" messages every time you try to load or save a file... make sure you do not have a directory named .hg at the top level of your home directory. The vc-hg module doesn't deal well with directories named .hg that aren't actually a Mercurial repository for anything.

Single stepping in the Lisp debugger. And let me tell you, the Emacs Lisp debugger is a piece of shit.

It's almost enough to make a guy think of switching to vi.

the first two propositions in your statement are ones I am very unlikely to fulfill - this sounds to me like "If you are splitting the atom" or "If you are having trouble with your space suit" or something. But do believe you that, were I to, this would, indeed be the case.
