If you have an hour to spare, please consider doing my web survey. This will help with actual genuine scientific research! It's a "norming survey"; the goal is to make sure that the stimuli to be used in a future experiment are properly designed.

Hm. I have a few that might be spoilers, so I'll not mention them (unless you turn on screening, maybe).

One thing that I would have liked to see, unless it intrudes onto your study design, is a progress bar of some sort. It would be nice to know how far I've gone, and how many more there are to do.

Otherwise, it seems interesting. Curious where it goes...

I see one completed survey with a few comment boxes filled in. Perhaps that was you?

A progress bar is a great idea, and I'll mess with it, but I'm not sure it is within my rather limited JavaScript skillz.

... hah, that was not nearly as hard as I thought.

Yes, that one survey was probably mine. And I haven't looked to see what you're doing for a progress bar, but I was really just asking for a "question [n] out of [total]" type text, so I could know whether or not to give up in frustration.

(Then again, maybe the indeterminate length is a part of the experiment...)

Anyway. Seems vaguely interesting at a meta level. Let us know what comes out the other end of this process...

Next button doesn't seem to want to work after #48.

I may poke again tomorrow, possibly start over with another broswer if it doesn't skew. I should be asleep now.

"browser"

Yes, bed, indeed.

What browser are you using? #48 isn't a special screen ... it seems like a silly thing to ask, but are you sure you answered all the questions on that screen?

Safari. And I suppose I'm not sure I answered them all, because I was up past my bedtime. I'll look at it again when I get some more free time.

Yeah, apparently I had missed the first question, because when I'd been checking to see if they were all answered I only checked the block that were all together.

I'm glad you got a progress bar in. I put the computer down again last night thinking I'd never finish, and discovered this morning I was on the last question. :-)

Done.

The change of pace with the groups of stories was a nice touch.

I would but perhaps I shouldn't since I have seen many of them?

yeah, probably not. The thought is appreciated though. <3

That may have been the most boring survey ever. The experiment survey won't be that long, will it?

About the same number of stories, but a much simpler task.

It was definitely starting to get to the point where I was wondering if the "goes between X and Y" and "is from X to Y" questions were supposed to be significantly different for the different stories they were asked about, and whether there was some distinction I was entirely missing that meant it wasn't just asking the same question over and over with different strings, and I was well past second-guessing myself and into third- or fourth-guessing by the time the survey got through with them.

As it happens, part of the point of this exercise is to be able to argue that there isn't any difference between those two strings on the level of "is it true?" (That difference is one of the critical experimental manipulations. I will explain further after the study is taken down.)

aww shucks, I thought the survey would auto save the info if I closed the page...whoops darn.

I regret, such is beyond my web page skills.
